Y-Club KUNA
GCHS Y-Club Name KUNA Delegation of Excellence

The Grayson County Y-Club was named a Delegation of Excellence at the annual Kentucky United Nations Assembly (KUNA) held recently in Louisville. The three-day event allows students to participate directly in simulated international diplomacy and experience the richness of cultures worldwide, with emphasis on a variety of perspectives and global issues.

During KUNA students must adopt a country learn about their culture and needs, dress in native attire, and design a village and a sign to represent the country.

Students debate issues of their country and of others while learning how and what the UN stands for. They learn respect, tolerance, and empathy for those with different beliefs and backgrounds while being the responsible voice to bring back change to their communities.

To prepare for the experience, students dive deeply into the culture of the nation and are encouraged to re-examine the world from a new perspective. They also develop solutions for international issues by writing, presenting, debating, and voting on UN Resolutions.

Representing Panama, Grayson County’s resolution, encouraging more accessibility for people with disabilities, passed their summit. Resolution authors were Isaac Jarboe, Lincoln Nichols, and Cameron Harris. Harris was also received an Outstanding Ambassador award.

Other participants earning recognition were Baleigh Murrain, who ran as a candidate for Secretary General, Olivia Lucas was selected to work with the KUNA Media Corps, and Kaitlin Horn served as a delegate. GCHS also received honorable mention for its country sign.
