School Buses with Snow

Winter weather will soon be upon us. We always hope for a mild one, but know that Mother Nature often has other plans.

Grayson County Schools take the decision to close or delay school very seriously. Many factors determine that decision, but the safety of students and staff is always our top priority.

Our bus drivers transport students more than 4,400 miles every day. Many routes extend to more remote areas of the county. Weather-related conditions often make those roads nearly impassable, even when others are perfectly clear.

Students travel either with parents or by themselves from every corner of the county. The same is true for our staff, some of whom live outside the county.

We make every effort to determine school closures, delays and early releases as quickly as possible to provide families time to make alternative schedule arrangements. Vastly different conditions throughout the county or fast-moving systems, however, can require either extra precaution or extra speed in making a final call. Sometimes, it’s both.

Conditions are closely monitored, from the threat of inclement weather through an actual event. In the days that follow, roads are driven countywide to assess potential hazards that could impact our students and staff.

If school will be closed, delayed or released early, we will immediately communicate that information through all of these channels:

  • Media, K105, Louisville and Bowling Green television
  • Facebook, Grayson County Schools
  • GCS App, download in the App Store or Google Play
  • Twitter, follow us @gcboe
  • District website, graysoncountyschools.com
  • Phone, by 6 am when possible

Connect with us this winter to get the latest on school closings, delays, and other important school happenings.
