Governor's school for the arts Sydney Powell

GCHS student Sydney Powell has earned acceptance into not just one, but two Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) focus areas - visual art and drama. Powell will pursue the drama focus during the prestigious 3-week residential program this summer at UK.

GSA is open to sophomores and juniors “with skill in their artform, passion for creativity, an open mind, collaborative spirit, and an eagerness for learning,” according to the GSA website.

The program includes nine categories for artistic and creative growth. Selection is highly competitive, with wide opportunities for growing artists to develop artistically as they learn from professionals and guest artists in their area.

The program is free for students to attend, and most universities in the state, and several in other states, offer scholarships to GSA alumni.
