Summer Learning at WKU’s Center for Gifted Studies

Summer learning camps and lots of fun are in store for students from 1st through 10th grades. Plus, thanks to the generosity of the Cann, Mahurin, and Minton families, scholarships specifically for Grayson County students are available for some programs.

VAMPY (The Summer Program for Verbally and Mathematically Precocious Youth) This three-week residential camp held in June and July. The program offers high-ability students who have finished grades 7–10 the chance to focus on one course during six class hours each weekday plus a nightly hour-long study hall. Classes are taught by highly motivated WKU faculty and area high school teachers who are thrilled to have equally highly motivated students. To learn more, visit the Center’s VAMPY page.

SCATS (The Summer Camp for Academically Talented Middle School Students) This two-week camp is held in June to provide high-ability students who have finished grades 6–8 a unique learning environment to explore new ideas, develop concepts, make friends, and share experiences. To learn more, visit the SCATS page.

Elementary students can take in the wonders of Camp Explore and Camp Innovation (formerly The Summer Camp). These one-week day camps are designed for students with advanced ability and high interest who've completed grades 1 - 5.

Camp Explore is for students who were in grades one, two or three during the previous school year. Learn more about Camp Explore.

Camp Innovate is for students who were in grades three, four, or five during the previous school year. Learn more about Camp Innovate.
