The decision to call for a traditional snow day or an NTI day is based on many different factors. Most importantly, it centers on doing what we believe to be in the best interests of our kids, which is providing as many face-to-face days of instruction as possible. In-person instruction is more meaningful and effective as students can interact with their teachers, staff, and classmates. Make-up days provide that opportunity.

At this time we plan to use five snow days which will be make-up days, and then reevaluate our plans for NTI moving forward, if needed. Our first scheduled makeup day will be Monday, February 19.

Winter weather always brings the possibility of school closures, delays, and/or early releases. Conditions are closely monitored, from the first threat of inclement weather through an actual event.

If the regular school schedule will be changed, GCS will communicate that information as quickly as possible through all of these channels:

  • Media, Louisville, Bowling Green television, K105

  • Facebook, Grayson County Schools

  • X (Twitter), follow us @gcboe

  • Phone Call/Text

  • District website

We do our best to provide as much lead time as possible for families to plan in the event of a school closure or schedule change.

  • If a decision can be made the night before, it will typically be announced no later than 8:30 pm.

  • If a morning call is necessary, it will be announced by 6 am, barring unforeseen circumstances.

There may be exceptions, possibly due to the late arrival or the speed of a system. Vastly different conditions across the county may also impact the timing of final decisions and their announcement.

In the days that follow a weather event, roads continue to be driven countywide to assess potential hazards that could impact our students and staff.

If no announcement is made, school will be in session and on a regular schedule.

Cancellation options include both NTI and traditional snow days to be made up later in the school year. See the 2023-24 school year calendar for these dates.
