GCHS Advanced Placement classes continue to grow, along with test scores. Results just released had the school at 142 tests passed for a 69.61% pass rate, an increase of nearly 10 points over last year. This is a testament not only to these students’ drive and subject mastery but also to the skill and talent of the teachers who provide these advanced opportunities.
Students who pass their AP exams earn credit for prerequisite courses at the college level. Based on KCTCS rates of $195/credit hour, this year's test scores represent college tuition savings of $119,340
2025 saw the largest number of AP students ever at GCHS. Between 2019 to 2025, enrollments grew from 54 to 204, an increase of 150 students taking advantage of the AP opportunity.
According to counselor and AP Coordinator Aggie Manion, growth in the program can also be attributed in part to the support of Advance Kentucky and a multi-year grant from the organization. Manion called the current year results, “... a great showing in our final year of this partnership. We are sad to see the grant come to a close, but motivated to continue our growth within the district.”
In addition to college credit, AP coursework also includes benefits such as improved time management, study skills, and increased problem-solving skills. Research has shown that students who take AP courses and exams have higher college graduation rates and are much more likely to complete their degrees on time.
