What an experience! And what an impressive show they put on!! GCHS Machining/Computer Science students were invited to showcase projects during the Coding at the Capitol event. GCHS was one of only nine other schools from across the state invited to demonstrate its programs, which are integrated into a number of varied pathways at the school.
Featured were Jordan Cook, Robotics, Gabe Secora and Paul Overton, CAD/3D Printing, Brandon Baxter and Landon Johnson, Game Design and Development (game project partner, not shown, Austin Williams). They demonstrated and shared their projects throughout the day with the many guests, including legislators. Visitors could also join in for a more hands-on experience.
The event focused on the importance of providing computer science coursework and after-school activities at the K-12 level with legislators invited and involved. A presentation by Code.org, AdvanceKentucky, and KDE was provided for the Interim Joint Committee, along with a Round Table discussion with legislators, where GCTC Director Matt Hayes was invited to speak.
