Grayson County High School tennis coach Sherry Vincent has been named the Bennie Purcell Coach of the Year by the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
The award is presented yearly to a coach who has excelled in guiding and managing a high school or college-level tennis team. In order to be considered, you must be nominated and selected by a committee.
Vincent has been the long-time coach of the Grayson County tennis program which won the regional title this past season.
In 2022, she was named region coach of the year and a finalist for the state award by the coaches’ association.
“It is my honor and privilege to represent my community and school,” Vincent told K105.
The Grayson County tennis program is consistently one of the top in the region and much of that credit goes to the year-round work that Vincent puts in.
“Coach Vincent has done an outstanding job building the tennis program here at Grayson County,” GCHS Athletic Director Jason Kinkade told K105. “Rural counties in Kentucky traditionally don’t have great tennis programs but Coach Vincent has built one here. She holds her players to a very high standard and gets them to compete at a very high level. Her student-athletes are good on the court and in the classroom. She helps produce outstanding young adults who are ready for the real world. She is everything an Athletic Director could ask for in a coach. We are blessed to have her here at Grayson County High School.”
Vincent will officially receive the award on January 27 at the Hyatt Regency in Louisville.
