In an ever-evolving global landscape, preparing students for the challenges of the future is paramount. This advocacy piece, by the Grayson County DECA leaders, aims to shed light on the significance of DECA and CTE programs in shaping well-rounded, skilled, and future-ready individuals.

DECA, a renowned organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management, plays a pivotal role in fostering essential skills beyond traditional classroom learning. Through hands-on experiences, DECA empowers students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills – qualities that are indispensable in the professional world.

On the other hand, CTE programs bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, offering students real-world skills in various fields. From healthcare and technology to business and agriculture, CTE programs provide a diverse array of opportunities for students to explore and specialize in areas aligned with their interests and career goals.

One of the key advantages of DECA and CTE programs lies in their ability to enhance students' employability. By engaging in these programs, students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also acquire practical skills that are highly sought after by employers.

GCHS DECA Vice President of Activities, Tate Cain says, “Being enrolled in the CTE programs in Grayson County has not only helped improve my essential soft skills, but also navigate the challenging task of finding a suitable career for me. DECA, being the CTSO associated with my classes, has taught me how to lead a business environment and tackle problems with innovative solutions.”

In conclusion, advocating for DECA and CTE programs is not just a call for educational enrichment, it is a commitment to shaping the future leaders and innovators of our society. By investing in these programs, we invest in the empowerment of students, fostering a generation that is not only academically proficient but also equipped with the practical skills and attributes essential for thriving in the modern world.
