GCMS has been leading the way at GRREC regional events this month. Assistant Principal Ashley Johnson and Curriculum Coordinator Kim Pennington presented to 150 educator leaders and co-teaching teams at the Inclusion and Co-Teaching for School Teams event.

They highlighted how GCMS is expanding co-teaching and instructional practices to support more students and teachers. Co-teaching typically brings together a general education teacher and a special education teacher to plan, deliver, and assess instruction to meet the needs of different learners in a shared classroom.

Pennington also joined with April Logsdon to present a Math Boot Camp, sharing how targeted, flexible supports can be implemented in a co-taught classroom to meet diverse learners' needs.

In addition, the GCMS co-teaching team of Haley Snell and Taylor Murphy participated in a panel discussion, answering questions from educators across the region and sharing their classroom structures and instructional practices.

Participants came away with several new ideas and practices to put into action. Feedback included:

  • “I really enjoyed seeing how the Math Boot Camp worked in the co-taught setting!”

  • “Co-Teach Academy had great implementation ideas.”

  • “The Math Boot Camp program made me hopeful because of its flexibility to be individualized for each student’s needs.”

  • “Loved OTRs and scaling the work presentations!”

“We are proud of the work our teams are doing and grateful for the opportunity to share and collaborate with others across the region,” said Pennington.
