Ashley Johnson, former assistant principal at Grayson County Middle School, will take on a new role this school year after being named Director of Secondary Education for Grayson County Schools.
An 18-year education veteran, with 17 at GCMS, Johnson moved into leadership in 2021 as the school’s Curriculum Coordinator. She previously served as a Business and Career Choices teacher.
She has provided leadership in a variety of roles impacting both students and teachers. These include instructional and co-teaching coaching, as Related Arts Department Head, Jr. DECA Advisor, and many district and schoolwide committees.
“We are excited to have Ashley join our team,” said Superintendent Doug Robinson. “She brings a depth of knowledge and varied experiences to the role, plus a wonderful positive energy.”
“Each role I’ve served in over my career has strengthened my passion for supporting students and helping educators provide the very best learning experiences,” said Johnson. Those experiences have prepared me for this new chapter, and I am excited to continue serving our district in a new capacity.”

Johnson's appointment is one of several administrative transitions taking place before the start of the school year.
Chad Johnston has returned to GCS to fill the open assistant principal role left when Lea Ann Frank was named principal earlier this year. He has held a number of administrative roles during his career, most recently as Assistant Principal at Breckinridge County High School.
Johnson's move to the Central Office created the school's second assistant principal opening, which will be filled by former Caneyville Elementary School principal Josh Basham, rounding out the GCMS administrative team for the new school year.
Both Johnston and Basham are GCHS alumni, Class of ’02, with nearly four decades of education experience between them. Both look forward to building positive relationships with students, families and staff as they begin the school year at GCMS.
