GCS Logo with Cougars Care

Cougar care and compassion for our western neighbors and school districts impacted by the devastation of last weekend. There are so many initiatives throughout the district, many student-led, many collaborative. For all areas, monetary assistance and/or gift cards are especially appreciated at this time as a complete picture of needs is assessed in each community.

Our support will continue throughout the coming weeks as these communities work to get back on their feet, and school districts strive to meet the needs of their students and families as they hopefully return to school in January.

Schools are reaching out to their staff and students. If you’d like to get involved, please join us in one of these ways;

Gift cards are being received throughout the district and can include: Visa, building and other supplies such as Lowes or Home Depot, grocery, restaurants, gas. These can be dropped off at any school or the Board of Education this week.

GCHS FCCLA and FFA will be collecting items throughout the week and distributing them to needed locations. FCCLA/FCS program plans to distribute hot chocolate/coffee and snacks to crews who are helping with cleanup and recovery and those items can be donated as well. For questions please contact emily.taylor@grayson.kyschools.us or cody.mooneyhan@grayson.kyshcools.us.       Click to view Items needed.

In addition, a group of seniors will be taking donations in the lunchroom Wednesday and Thursday to give to those in need in Muhlenberg County. Led by Sophia Elmore and Madelynn Henning, items can be delivered until Friday, Dec. 17 and will be taken to Bremen the following day. These include garbage bags and bottled water, nonperishables, toiletries, batteries, blankets, flashlights, gloves and hats, first aid items, sleeping bags and pillows, etc.  See items requested here.

Boys Basketball: Friday, Dec. 17 game, donations will be accepted and donated between Mayfield and Muhlenberg Co. Students donating items will get free admission to the game. View needed items here.

GCMS will host a student-initiated Toy Drive through this Friday, Dec. 17. This project was initiated by several 8th-grade students. New, boxed toys will be accepted for children in areas affected, primarily Mayfield.

And, teacher Gwen Franich is working with Potter’s Hope on a Supply/Card Drive with a Tuesday, Dec. 14, deadline. The church is filling a semi-truck trailer with items such as bottled water, new blankets/gloves/hats, diapers, gas cards, etc. to be transported to Western Kentucky to help with some of the smaller/poorer communities affected.

Wilkey will accept gift cards and is also partnering with Potters Hope as well to collect diapers, wipes, and non-perishable food items. Students can bring these items in all week long and we will make sure that they get to Potters Hope.

Clarkson is sponsoring a student penny/coin drive to donate to the American Red Cross.

Lawler and Caneyville are accepting gift cards from staff and/or students.
