GCHS Natl History Day Winners
In its first year of STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program), GCMS has had two students recognized at the State Level. Isaac Dowell placed 2nd in an Art on Demand Photoshop project, going head-to-head in a timed competition with more than 2 dozen students from around the state. Victoria Lofgren was recognized for her role in the Girls Who Code program and a potential Maker Space concept for GCMS next year. The Lawler Elementary team also earned a berth at State, competing in a Level 2 Project, Quick Recall, Bench Challenge, Newscast, Website Design, Help Desk Support and Photo On-Demand. Congratulations to these students, and the teachers and school leaders who have supported them this year –DeeDee Webb, Stephanie Brey, Samantha McGrew, Yevette Kopp and district CIO Jerrod Graybeal. Look for great things next year as more students take up the STLP challenge, especially those with an eye on tech careers.

Several GCHS students will be spending their summer at prestigious honors programs throughout the state. Payton Abney and Brooklyn Glasscock have been selected to attend the Governor's Scholars Program (GSP), with Taeja Parsons an alternate. Jessica Manion has been accepted into the Commonwealth Honors Academy (CHA) at Murray State University. Sophomore Mason Parker was selected by audition for the Governors School for the Arts (GSA).

Machining student George Priddy placed 1st in Precision Machining Technology, Sandan Paddock took 3rd in CNC Milling Specialist. Amedeus Thacker placed 1st in CNC Milling Specislist, an achievement that will have him Nationals bound this summer.

Skills USA Winners with medals
The inaugural Leadership Grayson County Schools class recently wrapped up an eight-month journey through the district. LGCS piloted last September to give community and business leaders an opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of the school system. From finances to food service, transportation to technology, participants got an up-close overview during monthly “lunch and learn” sessions at the Board office and in schools. The program was designed to build better understanding of district operations, while showcasing school programs and success stories.

The annual Track & Field Exhibition gives elementary students an introduction to the GCS program and competitive events including the 50-meter dash, javelin, shot put and long jump. It’s free, and all participants get an ice pop to cool off after all that fun! Bring your child out to the GCHS track, Tuesday, April 23, 4:30 pm to explore all that Track & Field has to offer.
