A BIG thank you to bel Brands USA for “sharing smiles” this morning at Wilkey. The company has been delivering school supplies galore and lots of holiday cheer to all elementary teachers over the past two days. What an incredible surprise!

Jackson Parker, Noah Gawarecki, and Mason Parker have been selected for All-State Band. More than a thousand musicians auditioned for one of the prized chairs. They will perform at the KY Center for the Arts during the annual KMEA Conference to be held in February.

GCHS artists were on display at Brescia University's 38th Annual Juried High School Art Exhibition, as Tessa Combs, Ethan Pierce, Destiny Smith, Cheyenne Jones, and Aleah Clemons had artwork selected for the show.

In a history-making turn, and for the third consecutive year, GCMS will send a Governor to the Statehouse. 8th grader CJ Johnston was elected to the highest office of Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA), a student-run, simulated legislative body held earlier this month in Louisville and Frankfort. She follows in the footsteps of last year’s Governor, Bailey Richardson, and Grayson County’s first elected official, Payton Abney, a GCHS freshman and sophomore respectively.


Hitting all the right notes this week as 17 (yes, 17) GCMS students are selected for All-District Orchestra. Congratulations to (back l – r) Jacob VanMetre, Isaac Hart, Dawson Gorby, Austin Walker, Elliot Horn; (middle) Zoe Coles, Michell Lynch, Kyra Grant, Riley Shartzer, Emma Embry, Bethany Ray; (front) Olivia Sweeny, Branson Evans, Ava St. Clair, Ellie Evans, Grace Henderson and Mia Whitfill. These students will rehearse and perform in concert at WKU Jan. 10-11.

GCHS will be well-represented in the 4th District, All-District Symphonic Band, the top ensemble in the district. Jackson Parker, Alexis Coon, Kaylie Westphal, Jeremiah Embry, Jacob Swift, Noah Gawarecki, and Mason Parker were selected. They and fellow band members Darrenger Huff and Jonah Nolan also qualified to move on to the second round of the Kentucky All-State Band auditions coming up this weekend.


It’s almost Winter Musical Extravaganza time featuring the GCHS band, orchestra and choir, Thursday, Dec. 7, 6:30 pm in the school's gym. Bring a canned good for the Alliance Food Pantry to spread the cheer this holiday season.

The KY Music Educators All-State Choir has been selected and will include GCHS students (back) Sarah Bratcher, Megan Duvall, Macy Lively, Makenzie Coates, Hannah Baxter, Grace Chitwood; (front) Cameron Harris, Austin Clark. They will perform Feb. 9 at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

Record-breaking eight @gchs_cougars have earned a chair in the very competitive All-State Orchestra. Congratulations Tessa Whittaker, Kali Ramsey, Michael Dennis, Evan Clark, Austin Clark, Stevie Phillips, Payton Abney and Katlyn Guyton.


It’s time to Meet the Cougars, Friday, Nov. 10, starting at 5 pm. Chili Supper, Silent Auction and Boys/Girls inter-squad scrimmage for just $6, ages 11+ and $3, ages 6-10. Children 5 and under get in free. And, any Jr. Pro basketball player wearing their jersey will be admitted free. Come out and support Cougar Basketball!


Eight GCMS Orchestra students recently performed in the University of Louisville Middle School Honors Orchestra. Grace Henderson, Michell Lynch, Mia Whitfill, Emma Embry, Dawson Gorby, Ava St. Clair, Elliot Horn, and Austin Walker were among the more than 100 nominated from across the state.


Alex Hazelwood recently fiddled his way to a 5th Place finish in the Apprentice Fiddler (11 – 15) category at the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddler’s Convention. The "Granddaddy of Midsouth Fiddlers Conventions," draws more than 15,000 people, with more than 200 musicians participating. Alex is shown with Grayson County orchestra teacher Adam French.
